The MINITEX Library Information Network recently announced the names of the databases that will be included in the new iteration of the Electronic Library for Minnesota (ELM).  These resources are licensed by MINITEX with state appropriations from the Minnesota Higher Education Services Office (MHESO) and the Minnesota Department of Education. ELM provides the best possible access to information resources via Minnesota's K-12, higher education, state government, and public libraries.  The databases will be available at no charge to Minnesota residents from July 1, 2004 - June 30, 2007.

What's new?

The following databases from EBSCO Publishing will be available starting Thursday, July 1, 2004:

Academic Search Premier
The world's largest academic multi-disciplinary database, Academic Search Premier provides full text for nearly 4,600 scholarly publications, including full text for more than 3,500 peer-reviewed journals. Coverage spans virtually every area of academic study and offers information dating as far back as 1975. Updated daily.

Business Source Premier
As the world’s largest full text business database, Business Source Premier provides full text for nearly 3,800 scholarly business journals, including full text for more than 1,100 peer-reviewed business publications. Coverage includes virtually all subject areas related to business. This database provides full text (PDF) for more than 350 of the top scholarly journals dating as far back as 1922. Updated daily.

MasterFILE Premier
Designed specifically for public libraries, this multidisciplinary database provides full text for more than 2,000 general reference publications with full text information dating as far back as 1975. Covering virtually every subject area of general interest, MasterFILE Premier also includes more than 350 full text reference books, 84,074 biographies, 86,132 primary source documents, and an Image Collection of 107,135 photos, maps and flags. Updated daily.

Regional Business News
This database provides comprehensive full text coverage for regional business publications. Regional Business News incorporates coverage of 75 business journals, newspapers and newswires from all metropolitan and rural areas within the United States. Updated daily.

Until the new ELM package is available, EBSCO is graciously extending its
trial access until June 30, 2004.

What's going away?

Of special note to the University community is the coming cancellation of Expanded Academic Index.  It is worth noting that its replacement, Academic Search Premier, has many more full text titles (4,600 in ASP vs. 1,900 in EAI).
