U of M Resources & Services Related to Copyright
Below are University of Minnesota copyright resources and services available to help the campus community understand the rights and requirements of responsible copyright behavior. If your office or department offers such services and is not listed below, please contact us so we may add you to our list: web form or e-mail.
- Copyright Permissions Center
The Copyright Permissions Center assists faculty, staff, and students with reviewing material and securing any needed permissions for the use of copyrighted works in course packets and teaching, for publication in books and theses, for use in workshops, seminars, websites, and other types of departmental activities. Copyright permissions requests can now be submitted online at: http://www.copyright.umn.edu/submitting.html.
- Digital Media Center
The Digital Media Center offers information on copyright and fair use as it relates to using copyrighted materials in online learning environments. In addition, a DMC consultant is available to discuss instructional technology intellectual property issues with faculty and staff.
- Office of the General Counsel
The Office of the General Counsel provides legal counsel for the University on copyright issues. The OGC can assist with copyright infringement claims, management of copyright ownership, and any other copyright questions that faculty and staff encounter in the course of their regular academic work at the University.
- University Libraries' Copyright
Information and Education Initiative
The University Libraries' Copyright Information and Education Initiative offers information for faculty and staff on copyright in academic environments, including issues surrounding use of copyrighted works in teaching and research, ownership and management of copyrights, licensing, and copyright issues for libraries. CIEI addresses the copyright needs of the campus community through educational resources, workshops, presentations, and consultation services.
