Finding an article or an index

There are two ways to look for magazine and journal articles:

If you would like to search for articles on a particular topic:

Select an Index to search

Indexes are like search engines, usually dealing with a broad subject. They:

  • Help you search for articles on a particular topic.
  • Some even provide the full text of the article.
  • May also contain records for government documents, books and book chapters, dissertations, theses, images, and more.

If you really don't know where to start, try one of these

Libraries OneSearch: Search multiple indexes simultaneously.

General search: Academic Search Premier
Agriculture, Biology, and Ecology: BIOSIS Previews
Arts and Humanities: Academic Search Premier
Business and Economics: Business Source Premier (also try BSP Enhanced)
Engineering and Physical Sciences: ASTAB or Academic Search Premier
Health Sciences: Medline
Mathematics: MathSciNet
Social Sciences: Academic Search Premier

If you have an article citation with the magazine or journal title:

Try the CitationLinker

With the CitationLinker you can enter your citation and find out whether or not the University Libraries provides online access to your article.

Or ...

Try Electronic Journals

First look to see if we have the journal (i.e. search Journal of Anthropology), then search within the journal for your topic.

Or ...

Search MNCAT

Using MNCAT, the University Libraries catalog, search for the title of the journal or magazine.

MNCAT will tell you whether or not the University subscribes to the journal or magazine you need, and how to locate a copy on campus or online. If the University does not subscribe to the journal or magazine you need, the article may be requested from Interlibrary Loan.
