InfoNOW clients have the responsibility for proper use of photocopies under copyright law. InfoNOW pays publisher set copyright royalties to the Copyright Clearance Center on a per article basis for article which the University Libraries holds only the electronic version. If a photocopy is provided from a print resource, the client is responsible for determining their obligations under copyright law.
If a client determines that a copyright royalty payment is owed for a photocopy made by InfoNOW, the client may make the payment to the Copyright Clearance Center, or may request that InfoNOW make the payment and bill the user.
If a client concerned that copyright fees may exceed the client’s price limit for a document request, the client should let InfoNOW know the price limit, and an InfoNOW staff member will be in contact if the total price of document delivery will exceed that limit.
For budgeting purposes, InfoNOW has assembled a short list of publishers’ Sample Copyright Royalty Prices to the Copyright Clearance Center for copying articles. These quoted are current estimates, for budgeting purposes; actual fees may vary.
Clients are solely responsible for determining their obligations under copyright law. If clients choose to have InfoNOW pay copyright royalty on their behalf, this payment will be made to the Copyright Clearance Center (CCC). Occasionally, the CCC reports that it is unable to obtain permission to forward a copyright royalty payment to the publisher. In this case, the client may wish to contact the publisher in order to determine if copyright royalty is due.
If the University Libraries do not own the particular publication a client needs, our staff will try to obtain a photocopy of an article or chapter from another source. InfoNOW will not borrow original items, including books, theses, videos, etc. from other sources.
