InfoNOW has taken the position that clients are solely responsible for determining their obligations under copyright law and have the option to handle their own copyright clearances for requests that are filled from the University Libraries' print collections. Users of InfoNOW’s web based service are able to set a default setting in our fulfillment system; other user’s can request a default setting be set for their account. For requests filled from the University of Minnesota Libraries’ electronic resources, InfoNOW will charge the client the royalty fee set by the publisher and will make payment to the Copyright Clearance Center (CCC).
Occasionally, the CCC reports that it is unable to obtain permission to forward a copyright royalty payment to the publisher. In this case, the client may wish to contact the publisher in order to determine if copyright royalty is due.
If a client is concerned that copyright fees may exceed the client’s price limit for a document request, the client should let InfoNOW know the price limit, and an InfoNOW staff member will be in contact if the total price of document delivery will exceed that limit.
For budgeting purposes, InfoNOW has assembled a short list of publishers’ Sample Copyright Royalty Prices from the Copyright Clearance Center for copying articles. These fees may change and are provided for budget estimating purposes only.
