Because search engines are incomplete in their coverage of the web, search engines which execute a parallel search of multiple other search engines have been developed. By searching several databases at the same time, these "meta-search" engines are able to find more hits for a single query. In theory, this reduces the work for you, the searcher, but there are often so many search results that it can be overwhelming. Because of this, it is recommended that you use meta-search engines only if you can't find what you're looking for otherwise.

  • Dogpile -- With Dogpile, you can search a "dogpile" of search engines. Results are sorted by search engine.
  • Mamma.com -- Mamma.com sorts by relevance with all results compiled together
  • MetaCrawler -- Allows you to sort by relevance, site, or the source search engine.
  • ProFusion -- You choose which search engines ProFusion will search.
