Many public companies make their annual reports freely available on their websites. Look for a link called "Investor Relations". The Business Reference Collection in Wilson Library has a collection of annual reports in print, with strong coverage of Minnesota companies.

Pdf images of corporate annual reports for publicly traded US and foreign corporations are available going back to 1996. Access to SEC filings via EDGAR database are also included in Mergent Online. The University of Minnesota license allows 6 simultaneous users.

- EDGAR: Corporate filings from the US Securities and Exchange Commission
The SEC requires all public companies (except foreign companies and companies with
less than $10 million in assets and 500 shareholders) to file registration statements,
periodic reports, and other forms electronically through EDGAR. Anyone can access
and download this information for free. Here you'll find links to a complete list of filings
available through EDGAR and instructions for searching the EDGAR database.
Profiles
- Datamonitor Company Profiles
Part of the Business Source Premier Enhanced database, select Company Profiles to locate reports from Datamonitor. These are primarily U.S. public companies. This database contains various reports and articles on companies, industries, and market research. Business Source Premier Enhanced includes articles and other research materials on companies.
- Hoovers Company Profiles
Find the full company reports from Hoovers in LexisNexis Academic. Profiles of companies include sales, trends in employment, business segments, company history, competitors, products and Fortune 500 status. Search the "Get Company Info" box and navigate to the "Company Snapshot". Look for the Hoover's In-Depth Profile along the top description or under "References" on the left side
Alternative access to Hoover's via LexisNexis Academic
Use navigation panel on the left or "Show options to search specific document sections" to set up your search for a specific company. This is a good way to find the Hoover's Industry Profiles.

- Business Source Premier Enhanced
This enhanced interface of Business Source Premier provides easy access to specialized reports such as company profiles, industry profiles, country reports, market research reports. It includes articles from 2,800 magazines and journals in business, economics, political science and public administration.
- Disclosure Company Reports
Profiles of public companies based on filings to the Securities and Exchange Commission. Includes financial spreadsheets that can be downloaded. Includes the Worldscope company records of international firms that trade in U.S. markets.
- KLD Socrates
Socrates provides ratings on corporate social and environmental responsibility in the form of statistics, data, and reports. It covers more than 4,000 companies in over 50 global markets. Among other things, this database can reveal if any of the companies on the Fortune 500 list have serious human rights violations. More information is available on KLD's website.
Directories
- Million Dollar Database (Dun & Bradstreet)
A Dun and Bradstreet directory of 1.5 million private and public companies in the United States. Also includes international firms with more than 100 employees (select Advanced--> States/Region) U.S company listings have 20+ employees or sales above one million dollars. This directory provides contact information, executives, sales, employees, industry codes, business descriptions subsidiaries and locations. Find companies that match different criteria such as location, size, product line, headquarters and many other variables.

- ReferenceUSA
Includes access to major directories for residential listings, businesses, and nonprofits. Includes U.S. Businesses a database of 14 million locations and the Canadian Businesses of 1.5 million companies. ReferenceUSA business directories are good for locating smaller businesses and franchise locations. Both business databases include search criteria for locating private and public companies using criteria such as location, size, industry, headquarters, etc. Other directories available include the U.S. Residential database of 210 million households and the Canadian Residential database of 12 million households. The HealthCare database lists 675,000 doctors and 180,000 dentists in the United States.
- CorpTech Online
CorpTech profiles over 95,000+ private and public companies and their business units, as well as units of foreign companies, government labs, and non-profits. CorptTech covers a broad range of industries, including pharmaceutical, medical, biotech or software companies The types of companies included are private, public, partnerships, non-profits, and government laboratories. Beside contact information, the records include sales, number of employees, executives, ownership information, summary descriptions, product codes, SIC and NAIC industry codes, corporate family and history, and executive history. Records can be downloaded into Excel or pdf formats.
- LexisNexis Company Directories and Profiles
Profiles of companies worldwide with additional reports and articles. To search for companies that outsource products and services in other countries, select Dossier Create a Company List
- Register of Corporations, Directors, and Executives
Part of the NetAdvantage e-resource from Standard& Poors NetAdvantage choose the Company tab. Directories listings for over 50,000 private and public companies limited to those with more than $1 million in sales or over 100 employees. Advanced criteria available for private company searching. Each entry lists sales, products, directory info, officers, and bank information.

The best directory to learn if a company owns other firms or is owned by a parent company. Corporate ownership information on nearly 200,000 of the most prominent international companies and their affiliates, subsidiaries and divisions. The database includes major public and private businesses in the United States and throughout the world. Includes historical data for the last 10 years (use "Historical Search"). Records include products, brands, and competitors along with the service agencies such as advertising and accounting.

Analyst Reports for Publicly Traded Corporations
- Investext
Investext Plus contains research/analyst reports on companies and industries as well as annual statistical reports of industry trade associations. It delivers full-text reports in their original published formats, complete with charts, photographs and graphics. Investext Plus contains full-text analyst reports from 700 of the world's top investment banks, brokerage firms and trade associations. It contains over 700,000 reports, with thousands of new reports added each week. Historical reports are available back to 1996. Investext Plus also gives users the same research and analysis used at top investment banks, consulting firms and law firms to monitor industry trends, track company financials, and research merger and acquisition opportunities.
- Value line investment survey (Online)
The Value Line Investment Survey is a comprehensive source of information and advice on approximately 1,700 stocks, more than 90 industries, the stock market, and the economy.
It has three parts: The Ratings & Reports section contains one-page reports showing Value Line's Timeliness, Safety, and Technical ranks, financial and stock price forecasts for the coming 3 to 5 years, an analyst's written commentary, and more. The Summary & Index contains an index of all stocks in the publication as well as many up-to-date statistics. It also contains a variety of stock "screens" designed to help investors identify companies with various characteristics.
The Selection & Opinion section contains Value Line's latest economic and stock market forecasts, one-page write-ups about interesting and attractive stocks, model portfolios, and financial and stock market statistics.

- Morningstar Library Edition
Morningstar Library Edition provides investors with information on over 7,000 stocks, 23,000 mutual funds and over 600 Exchange Traded Funds. In addition, it provides stock screening functions and portfolio analysis tools. Over 4,000 analyst reports are available, covering funds and stocks.
- Standard & Poor's NetAdvantage
This Standard and Poors database includes overviews from the Industry Surveys tracking trends and leading companies in 52 industries. Company profiles in the Stock Reports with key financial data on public companies including peer group analysis and performance ratings from Standard Poors. Directory listings from the Register of Corporations, Directors, and Executives listing sales, products, other brief information for 55,000 public and private companies along with names of top executives.

- CompactD SEC
CompactD SEC provides reports on publicly held companies. Company profiles include descriptions, address, state of incorporation, stock exchange, ticker symbol, primary and secondary SIC codes, number of shareholders, number of shares outstanding, number of employees, etc. The bulk of each report is comprised of financial information taken from the quarterly and annual financial statements including key ratios, and summary stock price, ownership and dividend figures with previous 5 year comparison data. Data is compiled from SEC filings. Because the same format is used on all the disks, you can use them to get a series of statistical data on corporations in the U.S. from the 1980s through 2003. CDROM is only available on Business Reference workstations.
