New York Amsterdam News (1922-1993)

Full-page digital archive of the New York Amsterdam News, 1922-1993. This leading Black newspaper of the 20th century reached its peak in the 1940s. The Amsterdam News was a strong advocate for the desegregation of the U.S. military during World War II, and also covered the historically important Harlem Renaissance. Nineteenth Century British Library Newspapers

Digital archive of 48 nineteenth century British newspapers. This online collection includes national and regional newspapers including those from both established country or university towns and the new industrial powerhouses of the manufacturing Midlands, as well as Scotland, Ireland and Wales. Special attention was paid to include newspapers that helped lead particular political or social movements such as Reform, Chartism, and Home Rule. The penny papers aimed at the working and clerical classes are also included in the collection.

Nineteenth Century U.S. Newspapers

Digital archive of 19th century U.S. newspapers (1.7 million pages). Includes digital facsimile images of both full pages and clipped articles for hundreds of 19th century U.S. newspapers. For each issue, the newspaper is captured from cover-to-cover, providing access to every article, advertisement and illustration.

Pittsburgh Courier (1911-2002)

Full-page digital archive of the Pittsburgh Courier, 1911-2002. One of the most nationally circulated Black newspapers, the Courier reached its peak in the 1930s. A conservative voice in the African-American community, the Courier challenged the misrepresentation of African-Americans in the national media and advocated social reforms to advance the cause of civil rights. Seventeenth and Eighteenth Century Burney Collection

Digital archive covering British news media from 1757-1817. The archive contains about 700 newspapers, pamphlets, and books gathered by the Reverend Charles Burney. The contents were published mostly in London, and some were published in English provincial, Irish and Scottish papers, and a few examples from the American colonies, Europe and India.

Times Digital Archive

Digital Archive of The Times of London for the years 1785-1985. Full facsimile images of either a specific article or a complete page. The entire newspaper is captured, with all articles, advertisements and illustrations/photos divided into categories.

1980 to current. January 1, 1969 to May 31, 1980 contains abstracts only.
LEXIS-NEXIS contains the final city edition Monday-Saturday, and the Sunday Times, including special sections like the Sunday Magazine.

New York Times (1851-2004)

Offers full page and article images with searchable full text back to 1851 (it was called New York Daily Times from 1851-1857). The collection includes digital reproductions providing access to every page from every available issue.

Black Studies Database: Kaiser Index to Black Resources

The Kaiser Index to Black Resources is drawn from the handwritten notes of the staff of the Schomburg Center at New York Public Library. It indexes journals, magazines, newspapers, newsletters, pamphlets and reports published between 1948-1986. The actual clipping file is available in Wilson Library Reference, 1st floor, in reference microfiche sets 34 and 34A, covering 1924-1974 and 1975-1988.
