Complete the following QuickStudy Modules:
- Module 2: Designing a Research Strategy
- Module 7: Evaluating Sources
- Module 8: Citing Sources
Create a bibliography of 10 items on your research topic. To begin, you can use QuickStart (http://research.lib.umn.edu/) to identify a variety of sources, including at least 6 of the following:
- subject encyclopedia (such as the Encyclopedia of Latin American and Caribbean Art)
- book
- magazine article
- journal article
- primary source (such as letters, diaries, journals, contemporary newspaper accounts, etc.)
- statistical source
- government document
- news source
- document from the Internet
- nonprint media (video, audiotape, etc)
- interviews
Next you'll need to annotate each item in your bibligraphy. Included in your annotation should be a brief description and an evaluation of each item. Use the evaluation criteria from QuickStudy, Module 7: Evaluating Sources:
- Determine the purpose of the information source
- Consider the content of the information source
- Consider the authority of the information source
- Check the timeliness of the information source
Your last step is to record the library source (such as periodical indexes, reference sources, and library catalogs) you used to find each item in your annotated bibliography. Include your search strategies (what terms you used to find the item, for example). Make a note of which library sources were most helpful and why.
