Associate Director for Liason, Education, and Interdisciplinary Services
The University of Minnesota Libraries seek leadership for the newly created position of Associate Director for Liaison, Education and Interdisciplinary Services at the Health Sciences Libraries (http://biomed.lib.umn.edu/). The Health Sciences Libraries (HSL) includes the Bio-Medical Library and the Wangensteen Historical Library of Biology and Medicine on the Minneapolis campus, and the Veterinary Medical Library on the St. Paul campus. HSL is part of the University Libraries system, benefitting from and contributing to significant technology infrastructure, shared collections, and collaborative relationships with other Library divisions. Primary clients for the Health Sciences Libraries are the faculty, students and staff in the six professional schools and allied centers of the University of Minnesota Academic Health Center (AHC) (http://www.ahc.umn.edu/) and its affiliated teaching sites, with growing attention to consumer health and outreach throughout the state.
The Associate Director for Liaison, Education and Interdisciplinary Services reports to the Director of Health Sciences Libraries and serves as a member of the senior management team. He or she is responsible for envisioning, developing, implementing and evaluating HSL services and tools that focus on serving constituents in their environment both in person and virtually, integrated into their teaching, clinical and research endeavors as a strategic asset. He or she directly supervises and mentors 5 FTE librarians and 1 FTE paraprofessional, and coordinates with 3 additional librarians in other HSL divisions for liaison, education and interdisciplinary collaboration roles.

Liaison Services
- Work with liaison librarians to develop ways to create new opportunities and strengthen relationships with users. The liaison librarian is a primary conduit of communication between the HSL and AHC faculty, students and staff through the application of subject and domain knowledge and development of strong and strategic connections in the AHC environment.
Education Services
- Provide leadership for the HSL's instruction programs including setting the framework for developing, deploying and evaluating library instruction both in person and virtually, and working with faculty to integrate information literacy skills across the health professional education continuum.
- Support and expand the HSL's outreach efforts and capabilities, with a focus on both AHC community preceptors around the state, and on consumers though projects such as My Health Minnesota → Go Local.
Interdisciplinary Services
- Serve as library liaison to newly emerging entities in the AHC that focus on a commitment to interprofessional teaching, scholarship and practice such as the Center for Interprofessional Education and the Institute for Health Informatics, and ensure library participation in those initiatives.
- Help shape the University Libraries' response to the campus definition and enhancement of research infrastructure and interdisciplinary programs, including the E-Science landscape. Ensure that HSL librarians have opportunities (and skills) to participate in collaborative research with AHC partners.
Qualifications:
Required:
- Masters degree from an American Library Association accredited library school or equivalent combination of advanced degree and relevant experience.
- Minimum of five years of professional experience in an academic or clinical health sciences library (or similar environment) with a record of increasing responsibility.
- Demonstrated experience and success in supervisory and mentoring roles.
- Demonstrated expertise in program development and evaluation, and project management.
- Experience in the design and integration of new technologies into health sciences curricula.
- Excellent communication, teaching, presentation and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively with colleagues and library users in a service-oriented, research intensive environment.
- Demonstrated creativity, initiative and self-direction, and an ability to respond effectively to changing needs and priorities.
Preferred:
- Advanced degree in relevant science discipline and/or educational technology.
- Knowledge of academic health science center operations and emerging trends.
- Experience with grant development and management.
- Demonstrated knowledge of health science research and publication trends.
- A personal record of research, scholarship and professional engagement.
- Membership in the Academy of Health Information Professionals.
Salary and Benefits:
This is a full-time, 12-month, continuous-appointment track, academic/professional position at the Assistant/Associate Librarian level. The Libraries offer a competitive salary commensurate with experience. Excellent benefits and substantial moving allowance.
