Studying 24/7 and Stress Busters

The University Libraries will offer "distraction-free" studying for finals that includes extended hours in our buildings, as well as stress-reducing activities. Use our spaces, our computers, our coffee shops, get help when you need it, and take a break with our awesome activities. Be a #LibraryZombie.

Bio-Medical Library (East bank)

Extended Hours:
Open 24/7 from May 1 to May 15 with U Card.

Study Break Activities:

  • You can relax with a chair massage or with pet therapy animals. Positivity PigeonPositivity Pigeon
  • Document your studies with the photobooth.
  • Enjoy cookies and goldfish crackers.
  • Throughout Finals week, take a break with Positivity Pigeons.

Walter Library (East bank)

Extended Hours:
Open 24/7 from May 1 to May 15. U Card required from midnight to 7:00 AM.

Study Break Activities:
  • You can fly a kite and paper airplane design and flying on the Mall.
  • Throughout Finals Week, take a break with puzzles, legos, coloring sheets and other crafts anytime in the Great Hall.

Magrath and St. Paul Libraries

Extended Hours:
Open until midnight May 8 to May 15 and the extended study area until 2 a.m. with U Card

Study Break Activities:

  • On Monday, May 4, you can make a nature print from 11 to 1 outside the St. Paul Student Center, and make a button at Magrath Library from 1-3pm.
  • On Tuesday, May 5, you can make aromatherapy sachets from 11 to 1 outside the St. Paul Student Center (Ruttan Hall rain back-up).
  • On Wednesday, May 6, you can enjoy coffee/tea and fruit from 11 to 1 at Magrath
  • Throughout Finals week, take a break with a board game, paper airplanes, Positivity pigeons, bird watching books and more.

Wilson Library (West bank)

Extended Hours:
Open 24/7 from May 8 to May 15 with U Card

Study Break Activities:

  • Tuesday, May 5 you can take an outdoor study break activities including plant kits, lawn and sidewalk games, treats and more (rain date will be Wednesday, May 6)
  • Make poetry to get rid of your stress in the basement of Wilson Library. We will be hosting a poetry reading on Tuesday May 5 from 4 to 5, too.
  • During finals week, take a break with board games, free reads, and puzzles.

Expanded Tutoring Hours and Two Exam Jams

Tutors and consultants will be out in force at the SMART Learning Commons and the MCAE Instructional Center. Work with knowledgeable peers to jump start your prep week. Snacks and free selected practice exams will also be available.
  • Saturday, May 2 from 1:00pm to 5:00pm at SMART Learning Commons - Walter (204 Walter Library)
  • Saturday, May 9 from 9:00am to 1:00pm at MCAE in 140 Appleby Hall

  • An escort is available 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Please call 4-WALK (4-9255) if you would like an escort. The escort area covers all campuses and locations within a mile of campus.
  • The Gopher Chauffeur is a free transportation service that promotes safety in the campus community by providing University of Minnesota students with safe rides home. We operate from 10:00 p.m. to 2:30 a.m. on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday nights. The service is open to all University of Minnesota-Twin Cities students. Gopher Chauffeur drivers, navigators, and dispatchers are hired by Boynton Health Service. All employees are University of Minnesota-Twin Cities students who are CPR certified and trained in first aid. Please call 612-388-6911 for a ride.
