The University Libraries offer "distraction-free" studying for finals that includes extended hours in our buildings, as well as stress-reducing activities. Use our spaces, our computers, our coffee shops, Chat 24/7 with a librarian and take a break with our awesome activities. Check out these coloring sheets designed by students. Bio-Medical Library (in Diehl Hall on East bank)

Extended Study Space:
Open 24/7 begins at 7:00 am on Friday, April 27 and ends at 6:00 pm on Saturday, May 12 with U Card. Reserve a group study room

Study Break Activities: 

  • PAWS (Pet Away Worry and Stress) on Wednesday, May 2nd from 11:00 to 1:00.
  • Chair massages on Tuesday, May 1st
  • Free coffee, tea and cookies
  • Make a button, visit the MakerSpace (3rd floor) for marble run, make your own  paracord bracelet, vinyl stickers, orgami, and more.

Walter Library & East bank Libraries (Architecture and Math Library)

Magrath and St. Paul Libraries

Extended Study Space:
Magrath is open until midnight or extended study area until 2 am with U Card. Reserve a group study room.

Magrath Study Break Activities:

  • Button making, origami bookmarks, miniature bookmaking, coloring and watercolors, toys and puzzles on Monday, April 30 and Tuesday, May 1.
  • Coffee/tea and fruit snacks

Wilson Library (West bank)

Extended Study Space:
Open 24/7 begins at 8:00 am on Saturday, May 5 and ends at 6:00 pm on Saturday, May 12 with U Card. Reserve a group study room.

Study Break Activities:

  • PAWS (Pet Away Worry and Stress)  on Thursday, April 26 from 11:30 to 1:30.
  • Free coffee in the lobby, collaborative coloring, button making, design your own bookmark, and more on Tuesday, May 1 and Wednesday, May 2, between 11am and 4pm.


Expanded Tutoring Hours and Exam Jams

  • Come study for finals at Exam Jam events, Saturday, April 28th-Saturday, May 5th! Extended tutoring hours at SMART & MCAE, review sessions, and a relaxed weekend of preparation and snacks for you. See you there!  

  • The U Libraries’ Peer Research Consultants (a.k.a. Library Research tutors) are here to help with any last minute library or academic research questions. Need one more scholarly source to perfect that paper? Have questions on citing a source in APA or MLA? Need credible statistics? Worried you are citing fake news? Sit down or make an appointment to help find the sources you need efficiently! 


Walk 24/7 and Gopher Chauffeur

  • An escort is available 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Please call 4-WALK (4-9255) if you would like an escort. The escort area covers all campuses and locations within a mile of campus.

  • The Gopher Chauffeur is a free transportation service that promotes safety in the campus community by providing University of Minnesota students with safe rides home. We operate from 10:00 p.m. to 2:30 a.m. on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday nights. The service is open to all University of Minnesota-Twin Cities students. Gopher Chauffeur drivers, navigators, and dispatchers are hired by Boynton Health Service. All employees are University of Minnesota-Twin Cities students. Please call 612-388-6911 for a ride.
