About
Responsible for providing intellectual access for rare materials held in the Wangensteen Historical Library, the James Ford Bell Library, and Andersen Horticultural Library. Performs specialized and rare book cataloging using a variety of bibliographical descriptive standards including Resource Description Access (RDA) and the Descriptive Cataloging of Rare Materials (DCRM) manuals; subject analysis using Library of Congress Subject Headings (LCSH) and Medical Subject Headings (MeSH); and assigns Library of Congress Classification (LCC) and National Library of Medicine (NLM) classification numbers. Keen interest in book history, codicology, paleography, bibliographical description, bindings, provenance, and other disciplines informing cataloging practice.
kalan currently serves as a Keeper of the Text for the Descriptive Cataloging of Rare Materials (RDA Edition) and as a member of the Library Resources and Technical Services (LRTS) Editorial Board.
Prior to her arrival at Minnesota in June 2014, kalan held positions at the University of North Dakota at Chester Fritz Library and the Thormodsgard Law Library.
