Frequently Asked Questions

Does the library provide access to any databases that don't require an ID and password?

Answer:

The Libraries offer two major ways by which you can access databases that don't require a University Internet ID and password:

  1. From within a University of Minnesota campus library - every time the Libraries sign a contract for electronic databases or other information resources, we stipulate that, as a land grant institution, we will provide public on-site (but not remote) access to such databases at any campus library. A list of campus libraries and their locations is available at:
    http://www.lib.umn.edu/about/collections.phtml
  2. Remotely through the Libraries' web page of publicly available or "free" databases. You can access this list of databases on the Libraries' home page by clicking on Indexes and then the Free Indexes link on the right, or directly at:
    http://www.lib.umn.edu/site/free.phtml
