How do I use the self-service microfilm/fiche machines in Wilson Library or Magrath Library to view, scan, print, email or save images?

Answer:

There are six self-service microform scanners located in the Reserve/Periodicals Room in the basement of Wilson Library. There is one self-service microform scanner near the Reference and Circulation desks at Magrath Library.

With these machines, you can view microfilm or microfiche and also:
- Email images
- Save images to a USB flash memory drive
- Burn images to a CD or DVD
- Print images

VIEWING MICROFILM OR MICROFICHE ON SCANNERS

  • Turn on the scanner
  • Rotate images by turning the image rotation knob on the bottom right of the scanner. Images can be rotated 360 degrees.
  • Focus the image by rotating the larger grey ring dial located above the lens.
  • Zoom in or out by rotating the smaller blue ring dial located above the lens.
  • Lens size: Other lens sizes (used to further enlarge or decrease image size) are available from the Reserve/Periodicals desk in Wilson Library. The larger the lens number, the larger the image size will be.
