Frequently Asked Questions

What does "Order Initiated" or "On Order" mean in MNCAT? When will a book with these messages be available?

Answer:

These messages represent the various stages in which a book is ordered, received, and cataloged in preparation for library use.

With "Order Initiated" or "On Order", the item has been ordered, but has not yet been received. When a book will be received is highly variable, depending on the publisher or vendor supplying the book. Because we work with so many book publishers and vendors, it is hard to predict exactly when an ordered book will arrive.

If you would like to reserve the book and be notified when it arrives, please contact the Circulation staff at the appropriate library. Circulation Desk Hours can be found under each library's listing on the Library Hours page at: http://www.lib.umn.edu/about/hours.phtml
