Copyright Policies and Services

InfoNOW clients are solely responsible for determining their obligations under applicable copyright law(s). We allow clients to manage their own copyright clearances for requests that are filled from the University of Minnesota Libraries' print collections. For requests filled from the University of Minnesota Libraries’ electronic resources, InfoNOW will (with the client’s approval) charge the client the copyright fee set by the publisher and will make payment to the Copyright Clearance Center (CCC).

Users of InfoNOW’s web-based service are able to select a default setting in our fulfillment system to specify their copyright clearance preferences; other users can contact us to request their preferred default setting for their account.

Occasionally, the CCC reports that it is unable to obtain permission to forward a copyright royalty payment to the publisher. In this case, the client may wish to contact the publisher to determine if a copyright royalty is due.

If a client is concerned that copyright fees may exceed their price limit for a document request, the client should let InfoNOW know their price limit(s), and an InfoNOW staff member will contact the client if the total price of document delivery will exceed that amount.

To assist you in budgeting for document delivery, we have assembled the following list of fees, set by copyright holders for copying from their publications. This list is taken from the Copyright Clearance Center, and is provided for budget estimating only. The actual fees may vary. Not all publishers are listed.
