The Eric Sevareid library, which was named for Sevareid in 1980, holds more than 12,000 books and more than 100 journal, newspaper trade publications and magazine subscriptions. The Eric Sevareid Library was dedicated to him in April 1980 at Murphy Hall.
Arnold Eric Sevareid (November 26, 1912 – July 9, 1992) was an alumni of the University of Minnesota and became a news journalist for CBS from 1939 to 1977. Sevareid graduated in 1935 from the University of Minnesota earning a B.A. in Political Science and completed much of his coursework in the School of Journalism. He also worked as a reporter for the Minnesota Daily, the college newspaper at the University of Minnesota. At the age of 18, Eric Sevareid also worked for the Minneapolis Journal, while enrolled at the University of Minnesota.
