This section includes books and databases which include multiple types of spectra.

  • Reaxys Authentication Required
    CrossFire includes Beilstein (physical property and reaction data for more than 9 million organic compounds) and Gmelin (similar types of information for over 1 million inorganic and organometallic compounds); you must download special software (available to U of M affiliates at the above URL) to access the database from outside the Science and Engineering Library.
  • Handbook of Infrared & Raman Spectra of Inorganic Compounds & Organic Salts
    A 4-volume set describing development and use of IR and Raman spectra, structure identification, vibrational assignments and spectra-structure correlations. Gives tables of characteristic Raman frequencies and intensities, IR and Raman group frequency data, and vibrational data.

  • NIST Chemistry WebBook
    Provides access to chemical and physical property data (including IR, mass, and UV/vis spectra) for chemical species. Searchable by chemical formula, partial formula, chemical name, CAS registry number, molecular weight, ionization energy, and proton affinity. Published by the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST).
  • Raman/Infrared Atlas of Organic Compounds
    Gives Raman and IR spectra plotted on the same wavenumber scale for 1044 representative organic compounds. Includes introductory text and indexes to substance classes and names, molecular formulas, and CAS Registry Numbers. Try this before Sadtler.

  • SciFinder Authentication Required
    SciFinder is the best database for chemistry-related topics. Registration is required, and you must download VPN and then log in to it for off-campus access.
    SciFinder includes journal and patent references,chemical regulatory data, and supplier, reaction, and substance information. SciFinder Mobile is best for quick searches. It has no IP access restrictions but limited functionality, and it requires a SciFinder account.
  • Spectral Atlas of Polycyclic Aromatic Compounds
    Ultraviolet, emission, mass, nmr, infrared spectral curves, occurrence and biological activity of 43 organic pollutants.

  • Spectroscopic Tools
    Includes tables of chemical shifts for a variety of nuclei, tools for NMR and IR spectral interpretation and more.
Infrared (IR) Spectra
  • Aldrich Library of FT-IR Spectra
    A 3-volume set with over 18,500 spectra placed in order of chemical class and structural complexity. Includes chemical name, Wiswesser notation, melting point, and boiling point.

  • Evaluated Infrared Reference Spectra
    25 volumes covering some 10,000 compounds, with cumulative alphabetical, chemical class, molecular formula and numerical indexes.

  • FT-NIR Atlas

  • Handbook of Infrared Standards II
    Created for use in wavenumber calibrations for experimental spectroscopy, this work gives information about closely spaced spectral lines occurring in the nearer infrared, between 1.4 and 4 [mu]m and 6.2 and 7.7 m.

    Has 1300 spectra for "inorganics and related compounds".

    A set of 29,000 prism spectra. Indexed by the Sadtler comprehensive indexes (which cover all the large Sadtler sets) by: name, molecular formula & weight, chemical class. Also has a SpecFinder Index to micron bands in sequence for unknown identification.

  • Standard Infrared Grating Spectra (Sadtler)

    Covers over 80,000 mass spectra for 65,600 compounds and elements. Data is sorted 3 ways for identification of unknowns: by molecular weight subindexed on formula; molecular weight subindexed on m/z values; m/z of the 2 most abundant ions.

Nuclear Magnetic Resonance (NMR) Spectra
  • Aldrich Library of 13C and 1H FT NMR Spectra
    A 3-volume set arranged by chemical class, containing proton and 13C NMR spectra for nearly 12,000 compounds. Gives name, limited physical properties, and structures as well.

  • CRC Handbook of Phosphorus-31 Nuclear Magnetic Resonance Data
    A compilation of P31 chemical shifts of nearly 20,000 organic and inorganic phosphorus compounds. Organized by the atomic environment of the phosphorus nuclei and then by molecular formula. Bond types, stereochemistry, media, and data sources are included.

  • Absorption Spectra in the Ultraviolet and Visible Region
    A 24-volume set of spectrographs, with cumulative name and formula indexes.

  • Sadtler Ultra Violet Spectra
    A set of over 48,000 UV spectra, indexed by the Sadtler comprehensive indexes (which cover all the large Sadtler sets) by: name, molecular formula & weight, chemical class. Includes UV Spectra Locator to millimicron bands in sequence for unknown identification. Try one of the smaller sets first.

  • UV-VIS Atlas of Organic Compounds
    A 2-volume set of 1,175 evaluated UV-VIS spectra of organic compounds. Includes solvents, indexes (unsaturation values, substance names and classes, formulas, etc.) and supplementary texts on individual substance classes by experts.

  • Atlas of Polymer and Plastics Analysis
    A 3-volume set covering polymer structure and spectra (vol 1); plastics, fibres, rubbers, resins; starting and auxiliaxy materials, degradation products (vol 2); additives and processing aids (vol 3).

    A collection of high resolution x-ray spectra of over 100 organic polymers, recorded with a Scienta ESCA300 spectrometer.
