These are 7.5-minute topographic quadrangle maps, nearly 60,000 sheets in all, at the 1:24,000-scale (1:25,000 metric). These maps are available for checkout to provide a convenient alternative to printing maps from the USGS web store.

  • Topographic sheets in Walter
The 1:24,000 scale topographic sheets are organized by state (see diagram) and arranged alphabetically by quadrangle name (ie. "Hennepin, Minnesota". Check the State index to help you locate the quadrangle covering the specific area you need.
  • Topographic Maps Online

Geologic Maps by Region
Most countries and states produce their own geologic maps and surveys. The library has a broad collection of maps with particular emphasis on Minnesota Geological Survey publications. Search the catalog for maps by name, subject and library location. Or browse our collection by state, country, world region (ie. oceans).

  • Minnesota Geologic Maps
The Minnesota Geological Survey (MGS) has been publishing maps and data for over 100 years. Download digitized map pdf's from their Current Publications page. (Note: all MGS maps are held in Walter library and available for check out)
  • Geology Maps by State (US)
    • Online: State Geologic Surveys
Association of American State Geologists represents each state's geologic survey center that publishes maps and data. Locate maps from their site and search our catalog for location and availability.
  • Geology Maps by Country (World)
    • Online: OneGeology World maps
One Geology covers world geology and each country member represents their geologic survey centers. Maps are available for download or print request. Some country geologic maps are located in Walter library. If there is a particular country you are interested in, contact your geology librarian.
  • National Geophysical Data Center
"The National Geophysical Data Center (NGDC) manages environmental data in the fields of marine geology and geophysics, paleoclimatology, solar-terrestrial physics, solid earth geophysics, and glaciology (snow and ice). Data and inventories in many disciplines are fully searchable and selected listings, data, and images can be downloaded."

Atlases
The atlases are located in the reference room 206 along the north west wall. Please contact the reference desk for requests to check out these items.
