Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, visiting Magrath Library is different. Read the detailed information about changes to reduce the risk of COVID-19.

Library computers

Library computers are available to support teaching, learning and research and offer a variety of software.

Current University of Minnesota--Twin Cities students, faculty, and staff have unlimited access to library computers.

All other visitors must stop by a library service desk to sign up for computer workstation card by presenting a valid government issued photo ID. This card gives the visitor up to two hours of computer access per day. It is valid for six months. After six months the card may be renewed.

Join the Friends of the Libraries for additional visitor computer access, or check if you qualify for a Special Borrowing Privileges card.

Visitors may use library computers to access most of our licensed indexes and databases and electronic books while using library computer workstations. All users must agree to abide by University Libraries policies.

The Office of Information and Technology has a general purpose lab on the Basement Level of the Magrath Library building (B50). Additional nearby labs are in the Learning and Environmental Sciences Building (formerly VoTech) 220/230, and in Coffey 50.
