The libraries of the University of Minnesota announce a new digital subscription to The New York Times available to all current UMN students, faculty, and staff. This subscription is a partnership between all of the libraries of the University of Minnesota and access extends across all five UMN campuses.

All current UMN students, faculty, and staff members will have unlimited access to The New York Times — including News, Games, Cooking, Audio, Wirecutter, and The Athletic — from their computer or mobile device. Once connected to the University subscription, there is no need to log in through the library websites; users can access current content directly from NYTimes.com and all The New York Times apps, available for download for iOS and Android devices.

“The digital version of The New York Times is one of the most requested resources over the last 10 years, across all of our campuses,” says Sunshine Carter, Director of Collection Strategy & eResource Management at UMN Libraries. While users could previously access articles from The New York Times through other library databases, this new subscription to the digital version of The New York Times marks a significant expansion, allowing users more convenient and up-to-date access to content which they previously did not have access to, such as video journalism.

“Collaborating and providing our campuses with direct access to The New York Times is a reflection of our collective and ongoing commitment to meet the curricular, research, and educational needs of our students, staff, and faculty today,” says Carter. The University-wide subscription is jointly paid by the following libraries of the University of Minnesota: UMN Crookston, UMN Duluth, UMN Morris, and UMN Twin Cities.

To create a new account, or link your existing account to the UMN Libraries subscription, follow these Activation Instructions (which also includes information on how to cancel your subscription if you wish to do so.) By linking existing accounts, users will retain their saved content such as articles, recipes, and Wordle streaks.
