Wilson Library contains general collections in the humanities and social sciences including: American studies, anthropology, area studies, art, business, economics, education, film, geography, history, language, literature, philosophy, political science, religion, sociology and women’s studies. The following specialized subject collections are also housed in Wilson Library:

Ames Library of South Asia Ames Library of South Asia
Located in the Sub-Basement.
The Ames Library offers resources for social sciences and humanities in English, vernacular and European languages from or about Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Bhutan, Burma, India, Nepal, Pakistan, and Sri Lanka.

 

East Asian Library East Asian Library
Located in the Sub-Basement.
The East Asia Library houses over 150,000 books, journals, films, and newspapers in Chinese, Japanese and Korean languages and serves scholars and students on campus as well as at other colleges and universities in the state and region.

 

Business Collection Business Collection
Service is provided at the 1st floor desk.
The library has an extensive business collection including research guides, specialized databases and historical annual reports.

 

Government Information Government Information
Collection is housed in the Basement. Service is provided at the 1st floor desk.
The Government Publications Library is the regional depository for United States government publications. The collection also includes publications issued from the state of Minnesota, the United Nations, the European Union and other intergovernmental organizations. Many statistical resources issued by government agencies are available on the web site and in the collection.

 

James Ford Bell Library James Ford Bell Library - now located in Elmer L. Andersen Library!
The Bell Library houses non-circulating rare books, maps, and manuscripts that document trade and cross-cultural interaction throughout the world prior to ca. 1800. The collection is widely used by scholars, students, and the general public; classes and groups are welcome by appointment.

 

Borchert Map Library John R. Borchert Map Library
Located in the Sub-Basement.
The Borchert Map Library has cartographic materials: maps, atlases, and aerial photographs. The Automated Cartographic Information Center (ACIC), housed in the Map Library, offers access to digital spatial data to create and print maps.

 

Microfilm Reader Periodicals and Microfilm
Periodicals located on 4th (A-M) and 3rd (N-Z) floors.
Microfilm located in basement.

Wilson houses the University Libraries' periodical collection in the areas of arts and humanities, psychology, education, business, and social sciences. It also houses Wilson Library's newspaper and microfilm/microfiche collections. These collections are available for use whenever the building is open.

Robert and Virginia McCollister Collection for Contemporary Literature
Located on the 1st floor.
The Robert and Virginia McCollister Collection for Contemporary Literature enhances and contributes to the University of Minnesota Libraries by offering a browsing collection of current popular literature for the use of the University’s faculty, students, and staff. The collection promotes reading for pleasure and personal enrichment and is housed near the main entrance of Wilson Library.

The collection is maintained through a contract with Baker & Taylor’s Book Leasing program, and contains a base of 200 books. The leasing program provides the ability to offer a continually rotating collection of the most noted in-demand literary book titles.
 

Wilson Annex

As of August 31st, 2018 the Wilson Annex Service Point has closed. Materials can be requested through Get It, by calling 612-624-3321 or visiting the 1st Floor service point in Wilson.

The Annex provides closed stack storage space for materials identified as “low use.” It houses a wide variety of materials, including periodicals, books, theses (pre-1995), and government publications.
