The Plant Pathology Library is a subject-oriented branch of the University of Minnesota Library system. Our library specializes in plant diseases, plant virology, mycology, mycotoxicology and the effects of air pollution on vegetation.
Our collection serves the Department of Plant Pathology faculty and students, the University of Minnesota-Twin Cities community and the general public. Selected resources for Plant Pathology can be found here: https://www.lib.umn.edu/subjects/rqs/173
Coming Fall 2015: Borlaug Commons, a student study, group project, and public engagement space
The Plant Pathology Library is a partnership between the UMN Libraries and the Department of Plant Pathology and is supported in part by generous contributions from friends and alumni of Plant Pathology. For decades the Library has been an important resource for plant science research, teaching, and student learning. But libraries are changing, increasingly becoming creators of content and hubs for public engagement. A wide majority of today's students and researchers access Library materials electronically and we have noted precipitous decline in circulation of Plant Pathology Library materials in recent years. Meanwhile, the physical space housing the Plant Pathology Library remains an important and well used student study space. Because we value the history and future of the Plant Pathology Library, we are aggressively working to ensure that the Plant Pathology Library collection remains relevant to students, staff, and faculty and that the physical library space meets contemporary and future needs.
Throughout the Spring semester, you will see a phased relocation of Plant Pathology Library materials to other UMN Libraries facilities. It is designed to minimize disruption and ensure nearly continuous access to all Plant Pathology Library materials. Once the collection has been relocated, the physical space will be reimagined as the Borlaug Commons, a flexible space ideally suited for student studying, group projects, and public engagement activities. It is our goal to complete the transition to the Borlaug Commons by the first day of class in Fall Semester, 2015.
