LexisNexis Academic is a full text databases of business, legal, news, magazines, and wire services. It includes sources for accounting, environmental studies, health and medical care, government and politics, people, and consumer information. Legal publications include law journals, federal and state statutes, codes, cases, agency rules & regulations, patents and legal reference materials.

Full-text summaries of foreign newspaper articles, conference proceedings, radio and television broadcasts, periodicals, and non-classified technical reports. Formerly published as FBIS and JPRS Reports.

Polling the Nations is an online database of public opinion polls containing the full text of 500,000+ questions and responses, from 14,000+ surveys, conducted from 1986 through the present in the United States and more than 100 other countries around the world.

Index to statistical publications from US and state government agencies, international intergovernmental organizations, professional and trade organizations, business organizations, commercial publishers, independent research organizations, and universities.

Country Studies

Provides a standard set of facts for all countries of the world.

Europa World is the online version of the Europa World Year Book, a source of country profiles, statistics, and directories for all countries worldwide. Find facts, history, political, economic and other information including geography, media outlets, education, government agencies, trade and industry, tourism and other organizations. A major bibliography is included for each country and survey articles on various issues are listed for each major region.

The Library of Congress Country Studies Series presents a description and analysis of the historical setting and the social, economic, political, and national security systems and institutions of countries throughout the world. The series examines the interrelationships of those systems and the ways they are shaped by cultural factors.

Wharton Research Data Services (WRDS) is the leading, comprehensive, web-based business data research service used by academic, government, and non-profit institutions. Developed in 1993 to support faculty research at The Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania, the service has since evolved to become a common tool for research for over 280 institutions around the world.

WRDS supports a global research community of over 20,000 users in 27 countries. This hosted data service has become the locus for quantitative data research and is recognized by the academic and financial research community around the world as the leading business intelligence tool. It provides access to more than 60 terabytes of financial data.

The WRDS databases are not licensed through the U Libraries. They are licensed through the Carlson School of Management. Use of the databases is restricted to Carlson School of Management students and employees.

Direction of Trade Statistics

This print publication from the International Monetary Fund presents, for 161 countries, figures on the total value of merchandise imports or exports, by trade partners for a range of years, and also trade flows between major areas of the world. Each volume includes some data for the preceeding 7 years.

The public version of the Global Market Information Database (GMID). Countries and Consumers provides market research, reports, and statistical data on global consumption and market trends. To access, go to a public (i.e. non-UMN login) library workstation.

The Global Financial Database is a collection of financial and economic data provided in ASCII or Excel format. There are 20,000 historical or current data series which may be downloaded directly from the web site. Global coverage includes stocks, bonds, treasury bills, interest rates, commodity prices, CPI, GDP, exchange rates, indexes, population and more.Choose "Login Anonymously" for library access.

IFS (International Financial Statistics) Online provides statistics on all aspects of international and domestic finance from 1948-. It reports, for most countries of the world, current data needed in the analysis of problems of international payments and of inflation and deflation, i.e., data on exchange rates, international liquidity, international banking, money and banking, interest rates, prices, production, international transactions, government accounts, and national accounts.

This page is the central statistical page for the ILO. The data available here are extracted from LABORSTA, the Bureau's principal database. LABORSTA consists mainly of annual time-series which serve to publish the ILO Yearbook of Labour Statistics. The interactive application offered via this web site allows users to choose from over 200 countries, 23 tables and 31 years (1969 to the present). The application also allows you to download the data into a "Comma Separated Values" (CSV) file, which can be opened up in spreadsheet and statistical programs.

Use this resource when you want graphical representations of US trade information. Coverage is 1989- and several different printing and download options are available.

UN Comtrade is the largest and most detailed database of international trade data available. It supports research into bilateral trade of individual commodities (e.g. trade of wool between Uraguay and the USA). Commodities are classified according to SITC), the Harmonized System (HS), and Broad Economic Categories (BEC). Data are available annually and monthly from 1962-present.

WDI (World Development Indicators) Online contains statistics for over 550 indicators from 1960 for over 200 countries and 18 country groups. Subjects include: social welfare, economies, natural resources, and the environment. Data may not be available for all years for all countries.

The World Trade Organization Statistics Database allows you to retrieve statistical information from 1948- in the following ways:
-The Trade Profiles section provides predefined information leaflets on the trade situation of members, observers and other selected economies;
-The Time Series section allows an interactive data retrieval of trade statistics. Available data sets include merchandise trade by commodity group from 1980- for individual countries.
