China National Knowledge Infrastructure includes Chinese Academic Journal database and Century Journals Project
Chinese Academic Journal Database (CAJ) contains 2424 titles of journals in History/Literature/Philosophy and Education & Social Sciences since 1994.
Century Journals Project (CJP) contains many of those titles and extends our access from 1913 to 1993.

The database covers academic disciplines including arts and humanities, social sciences, sciences, medical sciences, physical education from various source including monographs, periodicals, newspapers, dissertations, reports, dictionaries, encyclopedias, and video lectures. It also includes North Korean academic journals. Note- Please use Internet Explorer when browsing this site. Many Korean sites do not support Firefox.
Hong Kong Journals Online (HKJO) is a full-text image database providing access to selected academic and professional journals, both in English and Chinese, published in Hong Kong. Titles included cover a wide range of disciplines including law, medicine and education, dates vary from journal to journal with the earliest going back to 1872.
The largest searchable database in Japan with over 7 million records. In addition to the zasshi kiji sakuin (Japanese Periodicals Index) since 1975, this database includes a wide range of scholarly, general interest, business, and sports periodicals. The database permits searches by keyword, author, publication title, or publisher. It does not provide full-text access.

Index to full-text collection of journals in literary theory, classics, history and cultural studies, philosophy, film, theater and performing arts, political science, and mathematics. From Johns Hopkins University Press. The full text of a limited number of individual monographs is also available for titles that the Libraries have purchased. Users can limit their search results to include only the full text content that the University of Minnesota has access to.

Includes daily newspapers, transcripts, newswires, and all editions of the Wall Street Journal. MasterFILE Premier provides full text for more than 2,000 general magazines covering a broad range of disciplines. It includes Magill Book Reviews, reference and travel books, biographies, full text primary source documents, American Heritage Dictionary and an Image Collection of 107,135 photos, maps and flags.

General Reference Sources
The Library of Congress Country Studies Series presents a description and analysis of the historical setting and the social, economic, political, and national security systems and institutions of countries throughout the world. The series examines the interrelationships of those systems and the ways they are shaped by cultural factors.
Published annually, this brief guide profiles the economy, government, land, demographics, communications, and national defense establishments of 191 nations and other political entities. Prior years may be accessed via Countries of the World. Tables of data items in each country's profile can be viewed from the Notes and Definitions link. Click on the term being defined and a table for all countries will appear.
Dissertations and Theses
1861 - present (Doctoral dissertations)
1962 - present (Masters theses). Description: Dissertations and theses from over 1000 universities. Doctoral dissertations are indexed for almost all North American graduate schools and many European universities. Masters theses from selected schools only. Provides bibliographic citations for older titles. Abstracts are included for dissertations since 1980 and for masters theses since 1988.
Some dissertations, beginning with 1997 publication dates, are available digitally.
The database connects you to multiple resources including Japanese and English language dictionaries for modern and classical terms, historic chronology, general encyclopedias, news, Japanese names and biographies, business quarterly reports, law dictionaries, and multimedia. Searches can be done in English or Japanese with results in either language depending on what resources were searched. Advanced and multiple term searches are available.

-Display: tile of article in English and Japanese, source, excerpt, and option to read more

Handbooks and Manuals
ChinaMaxx contains over 710,000 full-text Chinese e-books from cover to cover on wide range of subject areas. Selected titles also can be found in MNCAT. For accessing the e-books, please follow the brief instructions contained in the login page. ChinaMaxx only works with the Internet Explorer browser. Firefox and Safari are not supported. You will need to install a plug-in to view e-books.
Please note: Page content doesn't display in Firefox. This resource requires the download and installation of a proprietary browser, found at the provided URL. Using a different web browser, such as Internet Explorer or Firefox, is not possible since the database contains archaic Chinese characters not included in the current Unicode standard. Once the client program is installed, users can open the program on their pc, select IP Login, and gain access to the database. The Installation Guide contains very important information regarding the technical requirements for user's pc, expecially required language packages.

The project digitizes and catalogs 1,260 Chinese art objects selected by the renowned ceramic scholars Harry Garrner and Margaret Medley from 75 museums around the world found in Chinese Art in Three-Dimensional Colour(donated by Mr. Jonathan R. Gross to the East Asian Library)
COMING SOON--The project aggregates a group of visual materials including film, photograph, poster, and slides, centered on the theme of propaganda and its promotion through popular media from China, Japan and Korea. These unique visual resources can be accessed online for authorized users.

Chinese Periodical Full-text Database (1833-1949) covers over 10,000,000 pieces of writing in over 20,000 different kinds of periodicals published between 1833 and 1949. The search terms of the database include title,author,periodical,etc. Users may browse or download them in full text.

Primary Source Materials
There are approximately 310,000 items in the Grand Secretariat Archives at the Institute of History and Philology. These include imperial decrees, edicts, memorials, tribute documents, examination questions, examination papers, rosters of successful examination candidates, documents from the offices of the Grand Secretariat, documents from the offices for book compilation, and old documents from Mukden. Memorials make up the bulk of these documents. The archives contain valuable source materials for institutional, social and economic historians. They record general administrative activities and legal cases, many of which cannot be found in Ch'ing legal compendia.
