Article Databases and Indexes

Academic or Scholarly Articles Subject Indexes

Provides extensive indexing of scholarly and technical periodicals, conference proceedings, and report literature in all engineering disciplines including applied physics, electronics, materials science, and related fields in science and management. Indexes nearly 3000 sources worldwide.

Indexes articles, books, proceedings, reviews, and dissertations on the history of science and technology.

Search within a comprehensive interdisciplinary collection of journal article citations. Subjects generally covered are within Science and technology, arts and humanities, and social sciences . Use the citation web to find articles and journals with the most impact. Coverage runs from 1975 to the present. Helpful tutorials can be found on their website.

Catalogs & Indexes to Government Publications

Provides citation with abstracts mostly to technical reports relating to aerospace research. Covers NASA documents published since 1962, and NACA documents from 1915-1960. Many of the reports indexed can be found on microfiche in the Science and Engineering Library.

General Indexes to Magazine, Journal & Newspaper Articles

The world's largest academic multi-disciplinary database. Includes full text access to over 4,000 scholarly (peer-reviewed) publications back to 1975. A great place to start your research on any topic. Find search tips on their help page.

LexisNexis Academic is a full text databases of business, legal, news, magazines, and wire services. It includes sources for accounting, environmental studies, health and medical care, government and politics, people, and consumer information. Legal publications include law journals, federal and state statutes, codes, cases, agency rules & regulations, patents and legal reference materials.

Indexes, Other

Provides archival access from 1898-1968 to scholarly literature in the fields of physics and astrophysics, electrical engineering, electronics, computing and control, and information technology. Indexed are primarily journal articles and conference papers, with some books, technical reports, and dissertations. The database provides bibliographic citations plus abstracts. Produced by the Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET).

General Reference Sources

Handbooks and Manuals

A collection of electronic books on various environmental science and environmental engineering topics.

Knovel provides online access to reference books, databases, and conference proceedings from a number of publishers that cover all areas of engineering and includes content relevant to related sciences (e.g., chemistry and earth sciences). It includes interactive graphs and tables and is a good starting point when you need a piece of data quickly.

Physical Property Data

Reaxys provides web-based access to chemical structure, reaction and property information; its contents are derived from Beilstein (organic compounds) and Gmelin (inorganic and organometallic compounds), which date to the 18th and 19th centuries, as well as selected English-language chemical patents (US,EP, and WO) from 1976-present).

Default is set to search Digital Library and Standards; this can be changed in the main search box by clicking the "All" button. A collection of industry-leading standards and technical engineering information. Covers a broad range of engineering disciplines, including aerospace, biomedical, chemical, civil, environmental, geological, health and safety, industrial, materials science, mechanical, nuclear, petroleum, soil science, and solar engineering.

Links to standards associations and databases relevant to engineering.
