SWE, a History of Women Engineers

With a membership of more than 15,000 professionals and students from 22 countries, the Society of Women Engineers continues its mission of empowering and encouraging women engineers. Petticoats and Slide Rules was a special traveling exhibit from the SWEs Archives at Wayne State University. The exhibit was on display from June through September 2003 in Walter Library and was co-sponsored by the Institute of Technology and the SWE Minnesota Section, with some funding provided by Lockheed-Martin. It included papers from 1918 through 1993 documenting the history of SWE and of women in engineering:
  • Correspondence
  • statistics on women in engineering
  • speeches
  • biographies of famous SWE members
  • newspaper clippings and articles
  • And more...
