Walter Library is open to all University of Minnesota students, faculty, and staff, as well as to members of the public. For a complete list of the borrowing privileges available affiliates and non-affiliates of the University of Minnesota, see our Borrowing & Fines page.
Visiting researchers wishing to obtain special borrowing privileges and access to our online resources should make arrangements ahead of time with our Borrowing Privileges and Fines Office. It is also recommended that researchers contact the appropriate subject librarian to ensure that necessary materials are available.
Current University of Minnesota--Twin Cities students, faculty, and staff have unlimited access to library computers.
All other visitors must stop by a library service desk to sign up for computer workstation card by presenting a valid government issued photo ID. More information on this policy can be found at the Libraries Visitor Access website. Service desks in Walter Library are located in the basement and on the second floor.
Visitors to Walter Library are expected to adhere to the policies of the University of Minnesota Libraries.
