Student Library Assistant

Duties
Work across all University Libraries in East Bank, West Bank, St Paul, and off-campus locations. Pull items from library collections matching bibliographic descriptions. Assist in the physical processing of materials using the ULibraries system and keep up with paperwork. Work on shifting collections, as well as inventory, packaging, & shipping. Communicate with Operations Supervisor on problem resolution and outcomes. Other unit related tasks and projects as assigned.
Requirements
Must be a current undergrad at the U of M, with the ability to perform essential physical tasks such as pulling, pushing, and lifting, etc. With assistance, must be able to push carts weighing >100 lbs. Should possess basic office skills (filing, alphabetizing, sorting, accurate typing), and have the ability and willingness to work across different campuses and in different library collections.
Skills preferred
Attention to detail, willingness and ability to adapt to changing work environments, ability to work independently, familiarity with library catalog and call number systems.
Student Library Assistant - Map Library

Duties
- Find or shelve and refile atlases, maps, aerial photos, and other cartographic material.
- Check library materials in and out.
- Assist with scanning and printing.
- Open and close the Map Library.
- Other projects as assigned.
Requirements
- Current U of MN undergraduate registered for a minimum of 6 credits for fall 2024.
- Available to work Fridays from 9:45 am to 3pm and at least 2 other shifts per week (Mondays through Thursdays, 9:45am to 3pm) from May until the end of August.
- Available to work both summer and fall 2024. (Fall work hours will be arranged around your class schedule.)
- Able to perform essential physical demand, including but not limited to frequent standing, walking, siting, carrying, pushing, pulling, balancing, stooping/bending, reaching, and lifting up to 25 pounds.
Skills preferred
- Demonstrated reliability and a respectful, helpful attitude.
- Good verbal and written communication skills.
- Attention to detail.
- Ability to sort alphabetically and numerically.
- Ability to work independently after initial training.
Student Library Assistant 1

Duties
- Process incoming ILL materials: attach ILL bookstrips to items, prepare material for shipping in campus mail, and other delivery locations. Process ILL returns: check-in and sort returned ILL materials, remove bookstrips and prepare materials for courier or postal shipment. Open up incoming packages in Wilson Shipping area. Data entry and scanning projects as needed.
Requirements
- Available 2-4 hours a day between 11am-5pm, Monday-Friday. Schedule is flexible based on availability.
- Current University of Minnesota student enrolled as undergraduate or graduate for at least 6 credits (you do not need to be enrolled in Summer courses)
- Able to lift 30 lbs.
- Able to perform essential physical tasks including, but not limited to, frequent standing, walking, sitting, lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling balancing, stooping/bending, and reaching.
Skills preferred
- Attention to detail in an environment with repetitive tasks. Independent, self-starter.
