Program Development Lead, eLearning Support Initiative
I am currently the Program Development Lead for the eLearning Support Initiative at the University of Minnesota Libraries. In my eLearning role, I support UMN faculty developing Massive Open Online Courses (MOOCs), co-lead the Digital Course Packs Task Force, and collaborate with College of Education and Human Development staff on the Open Academics Library project.
I joined the University Libraries in June of 2004. I have filled a number of roles since that time:
- Physics and Astronomy Librarian (2004-2007),
- Map Librarian and Geography Liaison (2007-2009),
- and Program Director, Social Sciences and Professional Programs (Nov. 2009 - January 2013).
Prior to my arrival in Minnesota I worked as the Earth Sciences Librarian at Penn State University (1999-2004) and participated in the Residency Program at the University of Michigan (1997 -1999) where I worked in what is now known as the Art, Architecture, and Engineering Library (formerly the Media Union Library) and the Map Library.
Given the breadth of my experience, I have developed expertise in supporting research in a number of areas including engineering, architecture, geographic information systems (GIS), geology, meteorology, physics, astronomy, geography (human and physical), as well as maps and cartography.
I have an interest in providing technological solutions to library issues/services and have worked on a number of efforts in this vein. Some recent examples include Minnesota Historical Aerial Photographs Online (MHAPO) (providing access to almost 60,000 historic air photos of Minnesota) and MapHappy (spearheaded by Lisa Johnston and providing a graphical interface for searching for paper and digital maps found in the University Libraries).
