Giving to the University of Minnesota Libraries

When you give to the University of Minnesota Libraries, you fuel the extraordinary mission of this University. Your partnership allows UMN Libraries to connect students to resources, researchers to data, and the community to information that can transform lives.

Whether you choose to make a one-time gift, a monthly donation, or you are interested in including us in your estate planning, your generosity makes possible every breakthrough, every late-night study session, and every new innovation on campus.

Borrowing privileges are available for both individual and organization supporters. For more information, including a variety of giving options, see below:

Borrowing access

Individuals and organizations can request library borrowing access with an annual gift. These contributions help cover the administrative costs of creating and maintaining borrowing accounts and support the Libraries’ ability to provide this service at a time when library resources are carefully stewarded to meet many needs.

Borrowing access rates

  • $80/year – Individuals
  • $40/year – University of Minnesota Alumni Association members
  • $40/year – University of Minnesota Retirees Association members
  • $30 – Recent graduates (within one year of graduation)

Organizations

  • $250/year – Standard rate
  • $80/year – Nonprofit organizations

Borrowing access includes:

  • Borrow books, media, and physical collections.
  • Access in-library digital resources, including electronic journals, magazines, and newspapers.

Due to publisher licensing agreements, digital resources are available only on public computers in Wilson Library and cannot be accessed remotely.

Request borrowing access

  1. Complete the online form (you will be redirected to the University of Minnesota Foundation giving page).
  2. In the Special Instructions box, write: “I am requesting (or renewing) a library borrowing card.”
  3. To expedite processing, forward your donation confirmation email to Lanaya Stangret at [email protected]. She can help set up your account and schedule a visit to Wilson Library.

Please note: Account creation or renewal may take 7–10 business days after your gift is received. New borrowers will receive a library card by mail.
