About Mendeley

Mendeley is a free citation and file management application. The University of Minnesota does not pay for a subscription to Mendeley. All of the features listed below are available for free by creating a an account.

With Mendeley you can:

  • Create a database of citations by easily selecting items from your browser.
  • Manage your PDFs.
  • Sync your database to the Web.
  • Tag files, organize them into folders, annotate, and share with others (including annotations/notes).
  • Create bibliographies in a variety of styles, or export bibliographic data to other citation management applications like Zotero and EndNote.

Mendeley Mobile

Mendeley has mobile applications for iOS and Android. The apps work best for highlighting and annotating PDFs, but also have the full functionality of Mendeley Web.

Librarians can help with getting started in Mendeley and questions about functionality. Sometimes we can help with technical problems, but you may need to also contact Mendeley directly. You can do this through the Mendeley Support Center online.
