The ABC of It: Why Children's Books Matter

In celebration of the 70th anniversary of Dr. Irvin Kerlan's first gift of children's books and artwork to the University Libraries, the Children's Literature Research Collections will be hosting The ABC of It, curated by scholar Leonard L. Marcus.

The exhibit will be open February 11 - May 31, 2019. Hours correspond with regular Andersen Library building hours:

Mondays, Tuesdays, and Fridays 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
Wednesdays and Thursdays 8:30 a.m. to 7:00 p.m.

In addition to the exhibit, there will be multiple events and learning opportunities open to the public, giving the opportunity to delve further into the materials, as well as learn about the creation of the exhibit itself.

Wednesday, March 20: The Making of the Exhibit (Lisa Von Drasek, Mary Schultz, Darren Terpstra)
Event time: Doors open at 4:30, program begins at 5:00 p.m.
 
Join us for a series of thematic talks related to The ABC of It, featuring local authors and artists. The March 20th event focuses on the making of The ABC of It with exhibit designer Darren Terpstra, project manager Mary Schultz, and curator Lisa Von Drasek.
No RSVP required.

Osher Lifelong Learning Institute (OLLI) Series

Wednesday, April 24: Part 3, The Art of the Picture Book (RSVP)

In honor of The ABC of It: Why Children's Books Matter exhibit, the CLRC has partnered with the Osher Lifelong Learning Institute (OLLI) for a course on children's literature. These sessions are open to all (RSVP required), and each class focuses on one floor of the exhibit.

Please RSVP for each session you plan on attending at the above links, as seating is limited. If you are a member of OLLI, we request that you sign up through them, rather than through the public RSVP links.

CEU Credits are available for these events.
